No, I’m not talking about your language.
Ultimately, the key is to keep your emails looking clean, simple, and personal. You want your emails to land in the Primary Inbox, not the spam filter, so keep it simple, like jotting a note to a friend.
Why? Because Google and Yahoo, AOL and Apple all give preference to personal emails, so it needs to look personal.
That’s a plain white background and black text – NO header logo, and just a few pictures if needed.
Your text should be large enough to be easily read on any device, but not so large that it's shouting at your reader.
Typically, a font size of 14 to 16 points works well.
Images can certainly add a visual interest to your emails, but remember to use them sparingly and ensure they are relevant – like you do with your friends!
Also always hyperlink your image to your offer destination, as people love to click on them!
And do keep in mind that some email providers block images by default, so don't rely solely on them to get your message across.
And as a bonus, mobile optimization for emails is a non-issue if you keep to the email format I just gave you 🙂
IBM found that mobile users check their email three times more often than those who use desktops.
Reachmail reported that an email's open rate drops by over 50% if it's not optimized for mobile.
And Campaign Monitor discovered that mobile readers who open an email a second time from a computer are 65% more likely to click through.
So you definitely want to be mobile friendly, but here’s the thing…
You see, mobile optimization often involves ensuring that your email design is responsive, meaning it can automatically adjust to fit different screen sizes. But if we have kept our email design simple, like we discussed in previous lessons, then there isn’t much to adjust.
And remember, most email platforms automatically adjust the text size for optimal readability on mobile devices, so your Tribe won’t have to squint or zoom in to read your email.
The golden rule is simplicity. Keep it Super Simple!
By sticking to a clean and simple email format, you ensure a great reading experience for your Tribe, regardless of the device they are using. Plus you are keeping the email providers happy, too. So simply stick to our recommended format and Keep It Super Simple!
