How often to mail is one of the most asked questions I get…often with the most emotional response to the answer!
After all, according to Campaign Monitor, email marketing drives $44 in ROI for every $1 spent, and Fluent says that even 68% of millennials say promotional emails have influenced their purchase decisions. So you know you want to be emailing, but how much is enough and how much is too much?
The old adage, “They who mail most, make the most money!” is actually true.
And those who follow that adage are mailing 1-2 times a day.
But not everyone is ready to take that leap, and if you haven’t been mailing your list that much, you are going to want to work up to it!
At minimum, you want to be mailing a free Newsletter to both buyers and nonbuyers once a week.
You are going to mail high quality content with a soft offer in the PS.
Whatever your niche, you have something that they want to hear about once a month. For Real Estate and Stock Trading, we do daily or weekly market reports. For crafts, we’ll do weekly patterns or even tool reviews. For personal development, we’ll do a weekly exercise or meditation.
Do that one day for a while and then add another: Motivation Mondays, Testimonial Tues, Weds Hump Report, TGIF, etc. If you only add one new day a week until you get used to doing that number, and then add another, you’ll not only keep yourself from overwhelm–you’ll get your list used to hearing from you and looking forward to your daily touches to their week.
And now when you run offers to your community, they will look forward to those too, because if you give so much in your free content, your paid offers must be amazing to help them with their passion or problem!
You are going to want to mail sales offers 1-4 times a month.
If you are not used to mailing offers, then start with 1 good offer a month. You are offering high-quality solutions to their problems–they want solutions from you!
Side Note: I hear all the time, “But they can get any information they want online for free!” Yes, and both you and they know the value of free advice. They will be happy to get the real deal from you and compensate you for your expertise. Those who want free advice can continue to get it all over the place, and we are going to invite those who want to go deeper with you to make that investment in time and money.
If I’m helping build more community and less aggressive lists, I like giving them a week or two to rest between offers, but you can work up to as many as one a week.
You are going to launch a major offer 1-4 times a year.
By this I mean a big, flagship offer–your high ticket offer or new product. And you can do this quarterly. It takes 12-16 emails over a 2 week period to do a major launch, so you are not going to want to do those more than quarterly, or you do run the risk of wearing out your list.
It’s all in the conditioning and timing.
How will you know if you are mailing too often?
Your numbers will tell you! Watch your Open, Clicks and Conversions. They will tell you how your community is engaging and when they start to lose interest.
Some will always Unsubscribe. That’s those who just don’t resonate with your style of teaching or your product and that’s perfectly fine. We want them to go find solutions that suit them.
What you don’t want to do is listen to your vocal minority emailing in and saying you are mailing too often. Watch what they DO (that’s numbers), not just what they say.
I kid you not. One client got an email saying that they didn’t like getting so many emails, yet that same person bought everything that was offered and showed up to every event and training. They clearly loved getting the solutions. Lol
So DO Mail your community weekly and more and DO watch your numbers, and you will be on your way to your own thriving email marketing.
